Official Betting

In official betting, bets are made on events that are officially sanctioned by a sports governing body and settled using official league data. The data is compiled from statistics and results provided by the governing body to the Department for the purpose of determining the outcome of tier 2 bets.

Money lines and totals are adjusted by the bookmaker based on bets placed, and the amount of money that is won and lost. The more money bet on a particular outcome, the lower the odds on that result will be. The odds on the favorite team are generally much higher than the underdog. This is because the bookmaker is trying to balance out action across all possible outcomes.

For a game to have action on Run Line/Total Runs bets, the game must go at least 7 full innings (6.5 innings if home team is ahead) or be settled based on 8.5 innings rule. Head to head player props for a specific game will have action only if those players are in the starting lineup and the game is official.

Sportsbook operators may not offer bets on college teams unless those teams are enrolled in and participating in a recognized college sports program, or the team is affiliated with a regional or national professional league or organization that oversees the championship of the sport in which that team competes. In addition, a sportsbook operator is prohibited from accepting bets on any event in which a participant is engaged in illegal activity. Illegal activities include, but are not limited to, bribing another person for the purpose of fixing any match or event within a match.
